About Sevenoaks Tennis Centre…

Looking back

Sevenoaks Tennis Centre and West Heath Mini-Tennis are the creation of Hélène Jackson, who first started teaching tennis at her own home in 1991. Helene developed her programmes at Edenbridge Golf and Country Club before moving in January 2000 to the New School at West Heath, Sevenoaks, where West Heath Tennis Centre was born. In 2005 the West Heath team was invited to run the tennis coaching programme for Sevenoaks School pupils.  This change, and a growing partnership with Sevenoaks LTC, shifted the weight of the West Heath programmes away from the New School, and resulted in the change of name to Sevenoaks Tennis Centre. However, the Mini-Tennis programmes are still mainly based at the New School, and we have retained this link in our name and logos.

Today

Sevenoaks Tennis Centre is a tennis centre dedicated to the development of Junior Tennis, catering mainly for children in the age range 5-16. We are accredited by the Tennis Association as an LTA Performance Centre; as an LTA Mini-Tennis Centre; and as part of the LTA Tennis Clubmark System (see below). The Centre employs over 20 coaches and coaching assistants.

Programmes and Tournaments

Sevenoaks Tennis Centre runs coaching programmes and tournaments at the New School at West Heath, the Sennocke Centre at Sevenoaks School, and at Sevenoaks Lawn Tennis Club: and also provides coaching at a number of primary schools in the Sevenoaks area. We have 250 children in regular weekly coaching, including over 50 children in the more intensive Performance Programme, designed to develop future County and National players. Our Centre is highly rated by the LTA for the numbers of children who go through to County, Regional and National Talent ID Sessions, and plays a significant role in Kent tennis. We field teams at all ages (more than any other Centre in Kent) in the Autumn and Summer Aegon Leagues, both at County and Regional levels.

In Pursuit of Excellence

In 2009 West Heath TC was endorsed by the LTA Tennis Clubmark Programme as achieving standards of excellence in the development of junior tennis – this covers both on-court activities and the overall management of the centre, including the crucial issue of the protection of children. Centres participating in the Tennis Clubmark Programme have a set of policy documents giving details of procedures in all areas of the programme. WHTC’s policy documents are held in a file at the Sennocke Centre, which parents are welcome to examine.
